LifeCare Medical Transports began operations in 1994 in Fredericksburg, Virginia and has grown from a local service to one of Virginia’s largest health care transportation providers. Corporate Offices and a Centralized Communications Center are maintained in Fredericksburg where dispatch, billing services and administrative functions are completed. Licensed at the highest level of service recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Health – Office of Emergency Medical Services, LifeCare functions at the Advanced Life Support (ALS) level to ensure a broad and complete range of services to our customers.
LifeCare provides essential emergency, non-emergency, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), Specialty Care Transport (SCT/Critical Care) and other varied services throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our reputation as a health care transportation leader has been earned by the dedicated commitment of our team members. Their daily efforts represent and reinforce our mission to provide a commitment to the highest quality services. LifeCare has a fleet of over 135 ambulances and employs over 500 employees with both health care and business training with community based locations throughout Virginia.
With an innovative approach to many processes, LifeCare incorporates modern technology with day-to-day operations. Developing and implementing programs and process improvements created by a team based environment represents our desire to not only stay on the cutting edge of patient care, but to develop it.
LifeCare participated in a comprehensive evaluation by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services that addresses several areas that collectively encompasses operations of an EMS agency. LifeCare exceeded all of the requirements for the Standards of Excellence (SOE) Program.
LifeCare Medical Transports was founded by Kevin Dillard and Dan Wildman and began operations in 1994 in Fredericksburg, Virginia and has grown from a local service to one of Virginia’s largest providers of health care transportation services.
Both Mr. Dillard and Mr. Wildman are long time volunteer rescue squad members and currently serve active roles in various State and National organizations and committees related to the delivery of Emergency Medical Services. Ernest and Young recognized Dillard and Wildman in 1999 as Virginia’s Entrepreneur of the Year.
In 2007, LifeCare Medical Transports was given the Governor’s Award for Outstanding EMS Agency, which is the first time a commercial EMS agency has been awarded this prestigious award in Virginia.
Successful growth is related to maintaining core values: Quality patient care, positive and active involvement in the community, customer service and quality assurance.
Since its inception, both Mr. Dillard and Mr. Wildman remain actively involved at LifeCare and its growth and management of operations. Both also are actively involved in the local EMS system as volunteers, and encourage all LifeCare associates to become involved in their communities as citizens and role models.
In 2019, LifeCare celebrated its 25th Anniversary.
LifeCare employs more than 500 highly trained health care professionals who provide unsurpassed patient care and compassionate service.
A Basic Life Support crew consists of a Virginia certified Emergency Medical Technician and an EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course, Class 2 or higher) certified driver who holds a valid Virginia state drivers license.
An Advanced Life Support crew consists of a minimum of a National Registered Paramedic and a Virginia certified Emergency Medical Technician. The driver is EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course, Class 2 or higher) certified, and holds a valid Virginia state drivers license.
Wheelchair Van drivers are EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course, Class 2 or higher) certified, CPR certified, and hold a valid Virginia state drivers license.
Many LifeCare providers have advanced medical training and are certified in Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Advanced Pediatric Life Support (PALS).
LifeCare’s dedicated team of healthcare professionals is available 24 hours a day to respond to any emergency or non-emergency medical transport need.
